Our Founder

Dr. Justin Feinstein, Ph.D.

Clinical Neuropsychologist

Dr. Feinstein is an expert in the neuroscience of fear who is trailblazing a new path forward for the treatment of anxiety and PTSD. He has over 75 peer-reviewed publications in some of the world's top scientific journals. Dr. Feinstein received his Ph.D. in Clinical Neuropsychology from the University of Iowa and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the California Institute of Technology. He earned his undergraduate degree in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of California, San Diego, where he later returned to complete his clinical internship at the San Diego VA hospital with a focus on the treatment of veterans with PTSD using prolonged exposure therapy.

Before moving to Maui to be closer to his family, Dr. Feinstein was a professor in the Oxley College of Health Sciences at the University of Tulsa, as well as the founder and director of the Float Clinic & Research Center at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research where he spearheaded the first studies to show how floating could rapidly and reliably ease the suffering in patients with anxiety and PTSD. In 2021, he started the Float Research Collective, a Maui-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

"I live on Maui with my extended family and I will never forget that fateful day of the fires and all the devastation and heartbreak. Having spent my career exploring innovative ways to ease stress and anxiety, I immediately felt a deep calling to help our community overcome this tragedy. The healing power of water has always held a sacred place in Hawaiian culture and I truly hope that this unique form of healing will help bring back some peace and calm to the people of Maui.”
